Rhode Island native Nuala Cabral is a filmmaker and educator who is passionate about filmmaking as a tool to build understanding, share silenced voices and provoke social change. Her first documentary film, "Who's That Girl: Women of Color and Hip Hop" has screened at numerous festivals, conferences and classrooms across the United States, including the Pan-African Film Festival in Los Angeles. Beyond the festival circuit, Nuala has faciliated post-screening workshops and talk-backs at high schools, summer youth programs and social community events.
Receiving a RI Humanities grant in 2007 enabled Nuala to complete a short version of this film for PBS Rhode Island. Nuala currently lives in NYC where she is completing a documentary production program at Third World Newsreel and co-directing a short doc about a Brooklyn community's response to gentrification. This fall Nuala begins her graduate studies at Temple University. |
