John
Walker received his Bachelor of Music in Education
at the New England Conservatory of Music in
Boston. After teaching Music in the Public
Schools for three years he decided to attend
the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.
He has studied drawing and painting at Montserrat
College of art, and at the Instituto de Allende
in Mexico. John taught High School art for
21 years at Winchester High School, Winchester,
MA. After retiring, John came to Rockport.
The Walker Gallery is completing its fifth
year in Rockport.
Artist Statement: I paint the marshes
and wetlands. My paintings use a lot of color.
And I try to get a lot of energy into them
with brush strokes and thick paint. The effect
of light on the highly textured work gives
off a great energy. I have always loved the
serenity and peace of the marsh and the flow
of the lifegiving river. I try to capture
the energy and color of the landscape in my
paintings. |
