Raw
Art Works uses the power of the arts to nurture
change in youth at risk.
Whether it be
painting, drawing, filmmaking, sculpture,
collage or printmaking, young people are encouraged
and empowered to express their feelings, ideas
and emotions. Art gives them a way to represent
“what’s really going’ on”
in their lives. And aside from just art instruction,
RAW provides a safe, positively-energized
space where everyone is valued, and welcomed
into the studio by a sign that sums up our
whole philosophy: “NO mistakes. Just
art.”
Through a total of 21 programs, RAW reaches
over 600 children and teens each year. We
offer several after school arts programs,
curriculum-related groups for children in
the Lynn Public Schools, therapeutic art for
youth with learning disabilities, and workshops
for residents of housing projects and residential
treatment programs. Of the kids served, two-thirds
are minorities and 90 percent come from low-income
households. And all programs are provided
at no charge. |
